I know I’m almost a month late with regard to commenting on this story, but I’m new to your blog and I’ve much catching up to do.

I must admit, your newest fan. I don’t say that to many.

I truly loved this post. It was funny and crass—two things I deem next to godliness, in my opinion–and I laughed out loud, but it also has a certain charm and poignancy to it. I don’t know if you intended to write with undertones of pathos, but I picked up on it.

All that high fallutin’ literary talk don’t matter shit anyway—I think you write brilliantly.

You don’t know how true that is! I remember when I was in 1st grade, I had a friend who lived on the same street as me and she had a “retarded” sister. One day – being the stupid kid I was – I teased the poor girl. Needless to say, I got the dressing down of my life from my friend’s mother.

Now I’m 31 and *I* have a special needs daughter. Karma? Methinks yes.

I loved your story though. You should be proud – not only of your medal, but of the patience you showed with the people who surrounded you. A lot of people wouldn’t have had the grace you so obviously showed.

And it was damned funny!
